This workshop prepares participants to conduct basic survey research for generating population statistics and measuring the impact of public health interventions. This practical workshop engages participants in sampling design, data collection, and data analysis techniques. It also provides practical examples of how to use data to plan programs and to inform government agencies and potential funders.

Performance Objectives

At the end of this workshop, participants will be able to

  • Explain basic sampling designs
  • Utilize qualitative and quantitative methods of data collection including: observation, interviews, focus groups, record reviews and facility reviews
  • Create data collection instruments
  • Collect data using a variety of techniques
  • Understand the importance of confidentiality
  • Analyze data using descriptive and basic inferential statistics.

Site Visits

  • To be determined in collaboration with local site coordinator, possibly in Alexandria.

Who Should Attend:

This workshop is designed for professionals in positions of leadership in governmental and non-governmental health care organizations. Participants are committed to designing and implementing a survey research or evaluation project upon returning to their countries.
